Lone Star Legislative Summit set to shine



Stars will shine bright in Nacogdoches during the Lone Star Legislative Summit, Feb. 21 and 22!

Stephen F. Austin campus will be the setting for Thursday’s activities. Registration is scheduled, 9:00 - 9:45 a.m., Regent’s Suites A & B in the Baker Pattillo Student Center. A light breakfast compliments of the SFA Alumni Association will be available during registration. The first panel discussion, Homeland Security, will begin at 10:00 a.m. Lunch will be served in the SFA Twilight Ballroom at noon. The afternoon sessions will focus on higher education, 1:45 - 2:45 p.m., and public education, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., SFA staff will lead tours of the student center and recreation center, both recently-completed campus construction projects.

“The Lone Star Reception will be a bright spot during the summit,” Ruckel said, “The reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening downtown at The Art Center. It’s a business attire event that offers time for folks to mingle with elected officials ranging from our local offices on up.”


The summit activities for Friday will be held at The Fredonia Hotel & Convention Center. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. Rural Healthcare will be the first issue discussed, 8:35 - 10:00 a.m., and our regional Natural Resources issue will be presented at 10:15 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon.

Keynote speakers for the Thursday and Friday luncheons will include Assistant Executive Director Phillip Russell, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples and U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert.
