'Jacks clinch share of SLC title, will host Eastern Washington in first playoff round

November 23, 2009 - SFA Athletics

Less than 24 hours after defeating Northwestern State to lock up a share of their first Southland Conference title since 1999, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football learned its fate in the NCAA FCS Playoffs. The 'Jacks will host Eastern Washington Saturday at 2 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.

Eastern Washington (8-3) is one of two at-large teams from the Big Sky Conference that advanced to the 2009 NCAA FCS Playoffs. After losing consecutive games to playoff participants Weber State and Montana midway through the season, the Eagles rattled off four consecutive wins to close out the season to earn a spot in the field of 16.

The Lumberjacks are their first postseason appearance since the 1995 season when SFA advanced to the NCAA semifinals. Tickets for Saturday's game are on sale through the SFA ticket office, (936) 468-JACK.
